My Vision
In the United States, many Native Americans have to deal with prejudice, and old stereotyping of what people thought it was to be Indian. Because of the prejudice, and stereotyping that still takes place today, I feel it is important for Native Americans, like me, to educate the public, particularly, children, about our rich history. I believe that with my art I can bring beautiful images to life, and also give Native Americans of today, images that they can be proud of.
My Name is Rachel Gonzalez. I am a California Indian, belonging to the Diegano, San Pasqual Indian Tribe. I am currently living in San Diego. As a youth I was raised as a white child, and because of this I was never taught about my heritage. I am working part time as an artist, creating and selling my paintings mostly based on my visions of my heritage. I attended Palomar and the Art Institute of Southern California in a major of Illustration. With my illustrations, I believe I can educate through visual images, some of our history and traditions. Being a versatile artist using a variety of media such as oils, graphite, chalk pastels, pen and ink, and computers, helps me conquer any design creation needing to be done.
My illustrations, can show some of what we have accomplished the past few hundred years up to the present, and show what a strong, beautiful and proud people we are. Contact me at Red Cloud Treasures |
